Human-Environmental Geography tenure-track Assistant Professor
starting August 2008

The Department of Political Science at the College of Charleston seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Human-Environmental Geography to begin August 2008. A PhD in Geography by time of appointment and teaching experience are required. We are seeking candidates with some combination of teaching and research interests in human-environment relationships, land use planning and resource management, and growth management. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities are in the undergraduate program in Political Science and in the Geography minor, with two courses per year offered in the College's interdisciplinary Master of Environmental Studies program (http://www.cofc.edu/~environ). The normal teaching load is three courses per semester. Successful candidates must be able to teach Environmental Geography and World Regional Geography as well as graduate classes in environmental planning or management. Ability to offer classes in GIS is an advantage.

Political Science includes 18 full-time faculty (including three geographers) and serves approximately 400 undergraduate majors (http://www.polisci.cofc.edu) The College of Charleston is a public liberal arts and sciences institution with approximately 11,500 students located in a coastal metropolitan area of over 600,000. Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship starting August 15, 2008

The Department of Political Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2008, pending budgetary approval. The non-renewable appointment is for a period of three years and field of specialization is open. We invite applications from individuals who seek a collegial environment in which to develop as an innovative and high quality teacher-scholar. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester and the number of course preparations for the Fellow will be limited. The successful candidate will enjoy departmental mentoring, support for the development of new courses and pedagogies, as well as support for research in the form of conference/travel funding. Political Science has 18 full-time faculty and serves 350 undergraduate political science majors. A minor in Geography is offered from within the department. PhD in hand by time of appointment is preferred (conferred no earlier than 2005), but on a case-by-case basis, late-stage ABD candidates will be considered.
