Rhett Dunaway began teaching at the College of Charleston as an adjunct professor in 2011. He has taught continuously in the Political Science Department from the spring of 2013.

Rhett retired as the Deputy Public Defender of Charleston County after 23 years of service. Previously he had worked in private law firms and immediately after law school he served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Warren W. Eginton, Senior Judge, United States District Court, District of Connecticut.

Rhett earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University’s School of Law in 1989 and his A.B. in English from Princeton University in 1984. Prior to entering law school, he worked in New York City in advertising. Rhett’s most celebrated murder case was featured in the Vanderbilt Lawyer magazine. He is admitted to practice law in South Carolina.
